Diatonic Siparia Steel in Motion 2014
The annual
Siparia community festival, built around the celebration of
the mysterious appearance of the patron Saint La Divina
Pastora, takes place on the 10 May 2014. Since the
introduction of the Diatonic Steel in Motion, the
celebrations have experienced a phenomenal revival, not only
with people filling the streets but also enjoying patronage
from around the country and returning residents. The
festival is now a major annual internal tourism destination
providing significant development for the community. The Event It is proposed to stage the fourth annual Steel in Motion with traditional bands on the occasion of Siparia Fete on Saturday, 10th May 2014. The 2014 edition will be dedicated to Calypso Rose and bands will be required to perform songs vocalize and performed by her. Twenty (20) traditional bands will be invited to perform at the event, and they will be required to perform two (2) pieces for judging at the required adjudication point viz. a religious song in calypso tempo and a calypso Rose tune of choice. Bands will proceed to the end of the prescribed route where they will compete in a flag waving competition. Along the route, bands will be required to perform music from their repertoire from which the Best pan on the move will be adjudicated. Points will be awarded to bands at each stage of the competition with the overall winner receiving a cash prize and the Andrew Cardinal Memorial Trophy
Prize Structure Participating bands will receive an appearance fee of $5,000.00 Best Band on the Move 1st $10,000.00 2nd $8,000.00 3rd $7,000.00 4th $5,000.00 5th $3,000.00
Best Religious Song and Best Calypso 1st $5,000.00 each 2nd $3,500.00 each 3rd $2,500.00 each
