Diatonic Siparia Steel in
Motion 2013
Siparia Fete is an annual community
festival built around the celebration of the mysterious appearance of the patron
Saint La Divina Pastora. This festival attracted nationwide participation
primarily because of the ancillary activities organized on the occasion of the
Festival. Since the advent of the Annual Point Fortin Borough Day celebrations
in the early 1990’s, which happens about the same time, Siparia Fete experienced
a significant decline in patronage to the detriment of the community. In 2011,
Diatonic Pan Institute staged its first Pan on the Move designed to revive the
flagging festival. The Festival has now been revived and the streets are filled
with people enjoying support from around the country and returning residents.
This scenario is making the festival a major internal tourism destination and a
major developer of the community. The steelband festival is now a fixture on the
national calendar and as from 2013 will be rebranded
Diatonic Siparia
Steel in Motion.
The Event
It is proposed to stage the Third
Annual Steel in Motion with traditional bands on the occasion of
Siparia Fete on Saturday, 20th April 2013.
The 2013 Steel in Motion will be dedicated to
Lord Nelson and bands will be required to perform songs Vocalise and performed
by him. Twenty (20) traditional bands will be invited to
perform at the event, and they will be required to perform two (2) pieces for
judging at the required adjudication point viz. a religious song in calypso
tempo and a Nelson tune of choice. Bands will proceed to the end of the
prescribed route where they will compete in a flag waving competition. Along the
route, bands will be required to perform music from their repertoire from which
the Best pan on the move will be adjudicated. The incentives again will be
structured in a manner to create greater participation on the road than at
judging points.
The parade will take the following
format:
Bands will assemble at the corner
of Mary Street between Coora Road and Edward Street, proceed right onto Edward
Street, then right onto George Street, east along George Street, north onto
Daisy Voison Street, west onto High Street, disbursing at the corner of High and
La Pastora Street.
- |
The competition will be
limited to traditional bands, with a conventional band performing during
the adjudicator’s summation of scores.
